Confederate monuments are coming down. Now, what do we do about memorials to slaveholders like Washington and Jefferson?

The defacement of the statue of George Washington in Druid Hill Park, part of a wave of attacks on statues, could be a sign of a change in how Americans perceive and memorialize their heroes.
