‘She was the pioneer:’ Legendary Severna Park field hockey coach Lil Shelton dies at 90

Lil Shelton began Severna Park’s field hockey program and coached for 37 years, leading the team to more state titles (20) than any Maryland coach in any sport in MPSSAA history, while also pioneering change for girls’ athletics in Anne Arundel County. Shelton suffered a hemorrhagic stroke and died Sunday at age 90.
